Welcome to the Long Nine's Cowboy Action Shooting Website!

The Long Nine Cowboys are proud to congratulate Black Jack McGinnis

For being inducted into the SASS Hall of Fame in 2008!

Black Jack is a co-founder of the Long Nine and currently the longest active cowboy shooter in Illinois.

Black Jack shot his first cowboy match on October 14, 1990 on a whim. He had planned on attending a falling plate match that day but was coaxed into trying CAS. He had a Ruger Blackhawk and borrowed a lever-action rifle and a double-barreled shotgun. He shot the match clean, took the overall win and won the Top Ten shoot-off. He was hooked after that.

At Winter Range 1995, he won Top Traditional and finished 1st overall. He also won 4 stages and the Shootout at the OK Corral team event. For top Ruger shooter, he was presented with a Ruger Vaquero in .45 and a cased .45 single action from EMF. He should have bought a lottery ticket after the ceremony!

In July of 1998, He was asked by Roy “Dusty” Rogers Junior to play the bagpipes at his father’s funeral. He lead the funeral procession which carried Roy Rogers in an 1880's horse drawn hearse, to his final resting place in Apple Valley, CA.

He has also served as the SASS Photographer for End of Trail and the SASS Convention since 2004.

He became a SASS Regulator in 2005 and was presented with a Life Membership and gold badge by the Wild Bunch in 2007.

In 2002, he approached the Wild Bunch with the idea for a Hall of Fame. In August of 2004, it became reality with the first class of inductees at the SASS Family Reunion in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He served on the Hall of Fame Committee and produced the induction videos for the induction ceremony.

In April of 2002, Marley Devereaux SASS 31853 and Black Jack were married and you guessed it, it was an old west wedding!

Some of Black Jack’s accomplishments:

7 Time Winter Range National Champion in 3 categories. Duelist, Frontiersman and winning the overall title in 1995 while shooting Traditional. In 10 years of Winter Range, I never finished lower than 3rd in category.

5 Time Land Run Shootout Champion (Traditional, Duelist & Frontiersman)

He has recorded 52 annual match wins, 13 of which were “clean” matches.
