The Long Nine is a Cowboy Action Shooting club based in
Springfield, Illinois. The Long Nine was started by a group
of cowboy action shooters that were also members of the
Springfield Sportsmen's Conservation Club (S.S.C.C.) where
monthly cowboy action matches had been held for several years.

The name, which is unique to Illinois history, was concocted
by Buffalo Buck, Black Jack McGinnis and Layne Spar. It was
voted upon by the cowboy members of the S.S.C.C. to
affiliate with the national organization of cowboy action
shooting known as the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS).
A vote was taken at the February, 1998 match to affiliate with
SASS.This vote was unanimously passed. Buffalo Buck was
chosen as the club's first Territorial Governor. The club's current Territorial Governor is Citizen Kane.

The Long Nine continues to hold their matches on the
fourth Sunday of the month. The matches of March through
November are held outdoors at:
Lefthander's Gun Club
9364 Rhea Park Road
Loami, Illinois.

During the months of November through February, matches
are held indoors at the Bullet Express Indoor Shooting Range.

For indoor matches, registration will begin at 8 a.m.
with a safety meeting conducted at 9:00 a.m.  For outdoor
matches, registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a safety
meeting conducted at 10:00 a.m.  Shooting will commence
immediately following the safety meeting.

All matches will be
open to the public with no memberships required.  Match fees
for all non-members will be $12.00 and for members it will
be $10.00.

We invite all new, as well as veteran, shooters to come and
join in the fun at our monthly matches.
